script iconIntro Bush Visit
Return to index of stories...
President Bush made a stop in Nashua Thursday for a town-hall style meeting. His 2nd visit to New Hampshire in less than 2 months. The visit to the Community Technical college was billed as a "Conversation on Job Training and the Economy". Despite that billing, the President spent much of his time on other issues before he got around to promoting the role of technical colleges.
The President took aim at critics who claim he was slow to respond to the Al Quaida threat before 9-11.

The President's visit was not billed as a campaign appearance. Was it?
Bill Shaheen, NH chairman of the Kerry campaign, and Tom Rath, former state attorney general-- member of the Republican National Committee- and longtime Bush supporter -- are here with some perspective.

Q Isn't any visit by President Bush at this point a political stop -- Tom Rath?
Q Bill Shaheen: The President -- used this opportunity to respond to the 9-11 Commission Hearings in which Richard Clark criticized his administration for FAILING to act sooner on the Al Quaida threat.
What was your reaction?
Q Tom Rath: Do comments by Richard Clark, the former anti=terror chief, hurt Mr Bush, on what's been a key issue for him -- anti-Terrorism?
Q What about Pictures of 9-11 victims hugging Mr Clark -- they say he's the first public official to apologize for the events of 9-11 --are those images DAMAGING to Mr Bush -- after Clark's scathing criticism of his adminstration?
JOBS
Q Bill Shaheen: The Bush's Visit was aimed at touting his jobs program.
President says Job Base is growing. New Hampshire's jobless rate is down from a year ago.
Didn't he make a case for an improving economic picture?
Q Tom Rath: The Economy has improved but the Jobs Picture has been sluggish. The President continues to be criticized for the job losses. Isn't the Bush Administration vulnerable on that front?
Q Shaheen: John Kerry is focusing on Job Losses in his campaign. Heads to Detroit Friday to give a major speech on Job Losses. What are we likely to hear from candidate KERRY?
Q Bill Shaheen: New Bush ads call Kerry's economic record TROUBLING. The campaign is trying to paint Kerry as someone who would threaten economy with big tax cuts. But, didn't Senator Kerry vote against small business tax credits?
Q Tom Rath: Should president bush run on his record-- or respond to John Kerry's attacks, rather than leave them go unanswered?
Q Bill Shaheen:. The President says He will CUT the deficit in half -- but also spoke of increased spending for the military. Got standing ovation when he said if I put troops in harms way.I want them to have the best.
Your Reaction?
===========================
Q Shaheen: Governor Howard Dean endorsing John Kerry today -- What's that mean for the Kerry Campaign?
Q Dean says he'll use his new organization -- Democracy for America -- to support Kerry and other Democratic candidates for office at all levels. Is that worrisome.
Q Bill Shaheen: Mr Bush's plans for re-training laid-off workers calls for 250-million in grants to community colleges to partner with employers looking for skilled workers, and another 500-million for re-training and education programs. Sounds reasonable.
Q Mike Hill, a student, went back to school -- 41/ worked in retail biz, upon graduatoin will make 7-times what he made and maybe start his own business.. Available.up to the invidual if you're willing to seize the moment.

In the picturesque Lakes region in the town of Wolfeboro, a one-time prima ballerina passes on her love of ballet to aspiring young dancers.
TR 2: Wide-eyed 4-year-olds learn the language of ballet and the moves that go with it. Their teacher, Edra Toth -- was their age -- when she and her family fled Hungary to escape a bloody uprising in 19-56.
5:50:19/ we left with nothing but the clothes on our backs…and my grandmother was told if you don't hear from us within the year, we didn't make it.
TR 3: Her family eventually settled in the Boston area. By age 6 - Edra had discovered the joys of dancing. A landlord offered to bring Edra to her daughters dance lessons - enthralled with her teacher, it was love at first step.
